Words by Veteran Joanne Kendall – ‘When We Sing’

Joanne recently participated in one of the Military Veterans Creative Arts songwriting workshops and completed stage one of the workshops with a beautiful lyric called ‘When We Sing‘.

Joanne’s training sessions were conducted as a one to one hourly zoom session over a period of six weeks with Jane Taylor. Joanne also worked really hard outside of those sessions to create her beautiful lyric.

These sessions were fully funded by the Military Veterans Creative Arts.

The song will be performed next year by the Armed Forces Community Hub Choir.

A score sheet was provided for the choir to rehearse, a vocal demo recording and an instrumental backing track.

We think Joanne has done a fantastic job, check out the preview clip of this beautiful song.

Joanne Testimonial

I first met Suzie when I recorded a song for her in Hull. I am on Facebook with her so when she offered me a chance to do song writing I jumped at the opportunity. Jane was lovely and made me feel really comfortable. I run a choir in Hull we are the Armed Forces Community Hub Choir. So I knew the song I would like to write. Jane suggested I get each of them to write what the choir means to them and why they joined. I then Whatsapped them over to her so she could help me to write the song. Using the words we wrote the song. We then chose a melody. I wanted something catchy with a 4 by 4 beat. Jane came up with 4 which I took to the choir so they could choose. I took the choice back to Jane and we started on the chorus. Jane helped with words. When we had the chorus we started with the verses once again using the choir’s words. We had a song. Jane then put some keys together so I could choose which key I could teach the choir in. Then Jane recorded it and wrote out a score so I could teach the choir. I am so excited to teach them it and record them so I can send it to Suzie. I can honestly recommend it to anyone it is so therapeutic and in the end, you have a song to be proud of, one to call. yours.

Thanks, Suzie for the experience
