I survived the battle unlike some, and eventually, we travelled home.
I had played my part with honour, but darkness stayed within the journey home to loved ones. What will they think of me?
The fear I have is within me and eating at my soul. The reflection in the mirror, an image I don’t like.
My eyes have lost their sparkle, replaced by pools of guilt, a love that was destined to last forever, now gone and never to return.
The burden of a loss of comrades has drained my pool of love. My communication lines are broken, my mouth doesn’t seem to work.
No one understands me I’m totally lost for words, my anger and frustration is taking over me, I feel totally broken, I haven’t the strength to spare.
And can I really start again in this mindset of despair, a medal I was given, that I can’t bear to view.
I’m crying out with pain, what can I really do, then a demon speaks to me and tells me to end it now.
He said it’s time to leave this world and free you of this pain. A chink of light a brother’s voice, a helping hand appears.
At last, someone who understands me an angel has appeared. I now feel like a different Man. I now have the strength to fight on

This battle is a long one but win, just win, just win, you must win
The darkness soon turns to light, the demon comes once more, but I will fight. This demon with my cap badge in my hand. Now the war is over my eyes are open wide.
My life is bright my future good, my smile has now returned. Thank you for not leaving me the light has reappeared
