Catching up with former Royal Marine David G Brain as he releases his song ‘Forward To Race’.
Meeting Cockleshell RM
It was great to finally meet up with David and Linda last week as ‘Forward to Race’ was about to be released.
I also met Cockleshell, a beautiful pilot gig that the song is about, not forgetting the other beautiful boat Mountbatten.
‘Forward to Race’ is a buoyant, catchy, animated and perky tune, expressing the exhilaration and determination of a pilot gig racing start. The Sea Shanty is about the RMA Gig Club and Gig racing, and we aim to raise funds for RMA-The Royal Marines Charity. The words are by David, RMA Gig Club, and sung by CPMR Studio – Carl Pemberton Music Tuition & Recording – formerly Journey South and produced and donated to the cause by Suzie Stanford at Military Veterans Creative Arts.

Presenting certificates in a beautiful A3 frame to all who work with us on their precious songs, poems and projects.
We are honoured that those that work with us allow the Military Veterans Creative Arts to use the lyrics they have created through our one to one sessions or workshops to go on and create a fully produced song, this is a lengthy and costly process. Those productions are then sold as downloads, CD’s or USBs to raise funds for other projects. Please check out what we do, our projects and our sales pages where you can download many of the words by Veterans Songs.
Once a year a veteran’s full production is donated to their charity campaign. In 2019 we did a song with Simon Bean called Millions March and all funds raised was for the Soldiers A to Z campaign https://youtu.be/UQpY34lxwxo. Last year it was Forces Online Len Chappell, and the song was used to promote a campaign for protecting our memorials called ‘Lest We Forget’ https://youtu.be/RqtOpK3UioY, this year it was David Graham Brain and the RMA Charity. David has created a fundraiser which is gaining some fantastic support.
Before that, fully produced CDs were donated to PTSD Resolution and Homes 4 Heroes before the Military Veterans Creative Arts became a CIC.
On a personal level, I very much enjoyed producing Mother of Angels for the lovely Julie Cooper. It was hard work but wow what an amazing song from a very talented lady.
